New rugged COTS secure router features virtual firewall

AMETEK Abaco Systems has launched the VSR8000, a fully rugged secure router offering Juniper Networks Junos vSRX Virtual Firewall. This provides a COTS LRU version of the launched 3U VPX VSR347D. This fully ruggedised secure router clearly indicates its commitment to delivering a full networking solution. The device uses vSRX from Juniper Network in a fully rugged and SWaP optimised package to provide the only fully rugged solution on the market.

The company has taken its proven SBC347D SBC, added an efficient, high-performance software environment, and incorporated it into a fully rugged package that fulfils a wide range of MIL-STD qualifications, including MIL-STD-810H for rain, sand, and salt fog. It combines the company's knowledge and expertise with SBCs, networking, and rugged LRU systems into a market-leading, secure router. Created to ease the transition from the RTR8GE, the device saves on time and cost for customers.

Working as a drop-in replacement for the RTR8GE, it has a combination of updated software, identical interfaces, and mechanical mounting points offers flexibility by providing the correct options for legacy architectures. The software architecture offers a plan to overcome obsolescence and provides for the next generation of SBCs and other form factors employing an x86 architecture processor.

With eight ports of 1000BASE-T, users can connect to multiple networks and devices while preserving a high level of security for each one.
