Non-illuminated switch features a coloured ring indication

21-10-2022 | Schurter | Industrial

Schurter has extended its Metal Design Line series MSM to incorporate a version with a non-illuminated indicator. A coloured ring is employed instead of an illuminated ring, which reduces the cost of the switch and eradicates the cost associated with wiring an external power source to drive LEDs. The high-quality MSM variant offers safe operation, superior haptic feedback, and highly reliable actuation.

The momentary-action MSM Non-Illuminated Ring Colour (RC) switch is an extension to the company's unlighted Metal Line pushbuttons range. The new addition offers industrial designers a less expensive means of providing switch indication while satisfying the users' unrivalled requirement for haptics. The combined visual and mechanical feedback provides a highly reliable actuating function with enhanced user safety. For example, utilising a red ring colour to indicate a 'Stop' function and green for 'Go' further clarifies the intended usage of the switch. The PMMA ring colour offers a modern appearance with up to seven fashionable colour options. The robust metal housing and actuator are constructed of high-grade stainless steel and offer an ingress protection rating of IP 67 from the front contact area. The switch is UV resistant and has an impact resistance rating of IK07, making it tolerant of outdoor exposure and usage in harsh environments. The switch lifetime is rated for 1.5 million operations.

The device provides several mounting options: 16, 19, 22, and 30mm, and it has an anti-rotation design. Rated for 100mA at 30VDC and 5A at 125/250VAC, the switch is readily wired with quick-connect terminals.

Typical applications comprise control panels for automation machinery, medical and laboratory equipment, food processing and service equipment, and vending. It is excellent for use in banks of similar colours or multiple variations of colours.
