New series of DC-DC converters for railway power systems

10-11-2022 | TDK | Power

TDK Corporation has introduced the TDK-Lambda CN-110B series of half-brick DC-DC converters for railway power systems. An input range of 43VDC to 160VDC allows their use with 72V or 110V nominal DC inputs. The baseplate cooled modules meet the rolling stock IEC 61373 Category 1, Class B shock/vibration standards and are created to meet EN 45545-2 (fire protection on railway vehicles). Railway applications include communications, LED lighting, control and automated train subsystems.

With efficiencies over 90% and high efficiencies at low load, the lower internal losses ease the cooling of the module and the ambient air. To easily withstand the surge voltages present on electrified trains, the series provides increased spacing between the input and baseplate of up to 11.76mm. The input to output isolation is 3,000VAC, input to baseplate 2,500VAC and 500VAC output to baseplate.

Four output voltages are offered of 12, 13.8, 15 and 24V. The standard modules provide an accurate current share circuit enabling up to 11 units to be paralleled for redundancy or for higher power demands. Remote on/off, remote sense and a DC good signal are also offered. Options include a 12V 10mA auxiliary voltage (replacing the DC Good signal), non-threaded mounting holes, and latching overvoltage and overtemperature protection. The baseplate temperature range is -40C to +100C with ambient temperature ratings of -40C to +85C. The series measures 57.9 mmx 61mm x 12.7mm (W x L x H) and weighs 100g.

All models are safety certified to IEC/UL/CSA/EN 62368-1, meet the rolling stock IEC 61373 Category 1, Class B shock and vibration standards, and are intended to meet EN 45545-2, with CE and UKCA marking to the Low Voltage and RoHS Directives. The units also comply with EN 55011-A and EN 55032-A conducted and radiated emissions, IEC 61000-4 immunity standards with minimal external components.
