With the cylindrical TVA Supercapacitor, EATON has expanded its capacitor range with a high-performance and reliable energy storage device offering AEC-Q200 qualification. The products are available now from Rutronik. Based on the design of an EDLC, together with proprietary processes and materials, the product provides high capacitance. The capacitors are ideal for automotive applications, supplying high reliability, low internal resistance and long life. They are excellent when a reliable supply is needed in modern vehicles, such as electrical system stabilisation, electric door locks, and e-call. Further suitable applications include peak load provision, hybrid power systems, and emergency power supplies.

The device can be employed as a stand-alone energy storage device or together with batteries to optimise application performance, lifetime, and cost. An operating voltage of 3V ensures high power and energy, and the low ESR values also allow high power density. With a capacitance of 25F to 100F, the capacitors are particularly powerful. The tolerance value at 20C is between -10% and +30%.

The use of environmentally friendly materials offers a positive effect on a more environmentally-friendly energy storage solution. The capacitors are maintenance-free and provide up to a 20-year service life (depending on applied voltage and temperature). They are also completely lead-free, halogen-free and RoHS-compliant. The component enables an operating temperature of -40C to +85C.
