Circular heavy-duty connectors designed for high-power EV powertrain applications

TTI Europe now stocks circular heavy-duty (CHD) connectors from Amphenol Industrial. The robust, high-performance CHD14 series is created for usage in demanding commercial and off-road vehicle applications such as EV battery packs, inverters, and power distribution systems where electrical connections must be secure and resistant to harsh environmental conditions.

The rugged and reliable series is rated at 1500VDC for currents up to 500A with an operational temperature range of -40C to +125C and at least 50 mating cycles. Available in 1-pin and 2-pin options, the unmated socket is IP67-rated. The aluminium housing and silver-plated copper alloy contacts are highly corrosion-resistant, delivering a long service life.

When mated, the interconnect is sealed to IP6K9K to stop dust and moisture from entering. It also delivers high protection with over 500 hours of salt spray testing. Also, to prevent incorrect mating, the series is offered with three coding styles (A, B and C).

“High-voltage DC powertrain applications, such as those used in EV battery pack, inverter and power distribution unit systems, require connectors specifically designed for high-voltage and high-current DC power transmission,” said Dermot Byrne, industry marketing director – Transportation at TTI Europe. “The CHD14 series is available with an HVIL option as an additional safety feature.”
