Würth Elektronik now offers a small, cost-optimised radio module for transmitting meter readings in accordance with the wireless M-Bus standard EN 13757-4. It can be used as a transmitter for a meter and a receiver for a gateway or data collector. Metis-e is based on the SoC CC1310 chipset from Texas Instruments and operates on the 868MHz frequency band.
The metering radio module has a range of up to 1500m and, with dimensions of just 12mm × 8mm × 2mm3, is more than 50% smaller than comparable models on the market. It is optimised for automatic meter reading and for use in battery-powered devices. The module has two energy-saving modes, requiring 1.6µA in standby mode and 200nA in shutdown mode. The different wM-Bus modes S, T, and C can also be selected to support various applications with different needs.
The module offers developers great flexibility with its comprehensive features, which can be accessed via the UART interface. Metis-e has an extensive user manual and a software development kit available.
