Torex Semiconductor Ltd. has released new load switch IC products, the XC8114 series, which feature an ideal diode function.
The series is a load switch IC developed to operate within a voltage range of 1.5V-6V and provide a maximum output current of 3A. It replicates the functionality of an ideal diode and integrates key features such as an enable (EN) pin, overcurrent limiting, inrush current limiting and thermal shutdown protection.
This IC incorporates an ideal diode function that accomplishes ultra-low loss equivalent to a diode forward voltage (VF) of just 20mV. This is approximately 1/20th of the forward voltage typically found in Schottky barrier diodes utilised for reverse current protection, greatly extending battery life. Furthermore, Despite the VF being as low as 20mV, the reverse current from VOUT to VIN remains at 0μA, embodying an ideal diode's characteristics. These features make it easy to implement output OR circuits and effectively lower power consumption in backup battery applications.
The series employs constant current limiting and fold-back current limiting to manage overcurrent. The fold-back method limits short-circuit current to 60mA, permitting safe operation even in short-circuit conditions. The thermal shutdown function stops IC damage due to overheating.
These features allow the easy implementation of a reverse current prevention circuit with ultra-low loss and comprehensive protection functions. The device is also suited to output OR-connection circuit configurations.
Furthermore, its 3A output current capability makes it excellent for high-current applications such as USB power lines and diverse power supply interfaces.
The XC8114 series is obtainable in a compact, low-profile WLP-4-04 package (0.82mm × 1.48mm × h0.495mm), making it ideal for space-constrained applications with limited board area or height restrictions. Additional package options include: SOT-89-5 (4.5mm × 4.6mm × h1.6mm). These package variations provide compatibility with industrial equipment, ensuring ease of assembly and rework.
