Nexperia has released what is claimed to be the industry’s first family of P-channel MOSFETs in a robust, space-saving LFPAK56 (Power-SO8) package. The new devices are AEC-Q101 qualified for automotive applications and are an ideal replacement for DPAK MOSFETs, providing a decrease in footprint of over 50% while sustaining high-performance levels. The new products are offered in 30V–60V, with RDS(on) down to 10mOhm (30V)
The LFPAK package, providing a copper-clip structure, was pioneered by the company and has been employed in critical applications such as automotive for almost 20 years. It is proven to be more reliable than is needed by the AEC standard, surpassing the key reliability test by 2x, while improving board level reliability due to the unique package structure. Previously, only N-channel devices have been offered in LFPAK packaging. Now, due to industry demand, the company has increased its LFPAK56 portfolio to also incorporate P-channel options.
Malte Struck, Nexperia’s product manager, commented: “The new P-channel MOSFETs target automotive applications such as reverse polarity protection and as a high side switch for seat adjustment, sunroof and window operation. They are also suitable for industrial applications such as 5G base stations."
